PROJECTS / LIVING BETTER
LIVING BETTER is a project developed in Italy and dedicated to implementing strategies for inclusivity, with a unique methodological alliance between Arts and Welfare sectors, at service of the most fragile segments of society.
Starting from the population with migratory background, in regards to equal access to services, rights and opportunities, the project has developed several areas of intervention to meet the fragilities of all citizens, to find systemic and sustainable answers and to convince the local community about the benefits of an inclusive, plural, open society. The project was developed between 2021 and 2025 with the support of Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation and included 14 major partners from the welfare sector as well as public administrations and cultural organizations. BILOURA was part of the network within which it lead - in a cross-disciplinary way with other partners - actions of relations-care and cultural impact. The project - thanks to a solid partnership and a strong vision - has been able to promote practices of innovation, wellbeing and inclusivity, targeting welfare professionals, institutions and citizens. Within Living Better BILOURA also led multiple trainings programs, produced two art-videos, led a creative workshop for people with migratory background, organized several Flash Mobs and eventually created the performance HEJMO.
LIVING BETTER I
In the first year and a half of the project, BILOURA’s Training Department has led a trans-institutional Team Building activity for the network of partners.
Using relational aesthetic psychodrama methodology, it worked on rooting the network in a deep sense of care of the relationships between the partners,
the value of the personal input behind the work of each one and the importance of social workers' care.
In addition to that, BILOURA facilitated a collective, intercultural creation process, which led to the production of the video EMPÀTHIA - Città Immaginaria.
It is an experimentation of applying Narrative Change methodology on arts, in order to change the narrative on people with migratory background in Italy,
using participatory activities. The video is an open source awareness-raising tool for spreading a positive message of unity and solidarity
beyond differences, valuing diversity as an enrichment for society.
You can find EMPÀTHIA at this link and freely show it at your events or use it for your trainings
LIVING BETTER II
In the second edition of the project (years 2024-25) BILOURA continued its commitment to the care of the Network,
increasing the Team Building for the partners and giving extra trainings about cultural impact and intersectionality.
On the artistic side, it deployed a strategy of active involvement of the final target of the project, namely the population with a migration background.
A theatre workshop involved them in 2024, together with the local population, to give them protagonism, positive sociability and a voice on the project's themes:
housing and working. The result of the workshop were 5 Flash Mobs at public events like JazzFestival Ivrea, CinemAmbiente Valchiusella,
International Meeting of Folk Dances in the Canavese region, to give visibility to the project's themes, people and activities,
raising the community's awareness of the advantages for all of a more inclusive society.
Subsequently, from the reflections born from the artistic research, the encounters in the workshop and the Flash Mobs,
BILOURA produced the multidisciplinary performance HEJMO. Six artists from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds were invited to explore the themes
of feeling at home, belonging and identity through words, movement and images. The performance is a collective creation that has been enriched by
an in-depth engagement with the welfare sector and the technique of reformulating the public debate on migration - Narrative Change.
